The Shooting School · Château de Montardy
French National Sporting and Hunting Champion. Member of the French National Team for many years. Selected again for the National Team in 2026.
Jean has been teaching wingshooting for 35 years. He has been using the Montardy estate for 6 years. He has also taught at two American shooting schools — Hudson Farm Shooting School in New Jersey and Pine Creek Sporting Club in Florida — as well as in Paris at Ball-Trap de Fleurines, and at Château de Janvry south of Paris.
The Method
Most shooters plateau because they have been taught what to do — not why they stop doing it under pressure. Jean's approach starts with observation. He watches you shoot before he says a word. Within the first drive, he has identified your difficulties and your way of shooting. Rather than changing your technique, he improves it so it remains truly your own.
Then he corrects it — not theoretically, but with repetition, explaining each time the reason behind the miss, until the right movement becomes instinct.
"Jean has fixed in an afternoon what other coaches couldn't solve in a season."
The Experience
You start with Jean over coffee. He asks about your shooting history, your goals, and what hasn't worked before. No forms. No questionnaires. A conversation.
Out onto 1,235 private acres. Jean watches you shoot — quietly, without interrupting — across two or three different stands. He is building a picture. The diagnosis happens here, in the field.
This is where the session changes. Jean introduces one correction — never more than one at a time. You repeat it until it stops being a thought and starts being a movement.
Back at the château, Jean walks you through what he saw and what to focus on before the next session. Dinner follows — Périgord cuisine, château wine.
What Guests Say
"I came for a weekend, thinking that would be enough. Before the month was out, I was back — this time for a full week."
— Curtis Bennet, England
"I have shot in Argentina, Scotland, and Spain. Jean's advice improved my performance twofold. The combination of his coaching and the estate itself is unlike anything else in Europe."
— Stephen Myers, United States
"I was a complete beginner. Jean built my technique from the ground up over three days. By the final morning I was hitting birds I had no business hitting. The château made the whole thing extraordinary."
— Emmanuel Frionnet, France
